Geert Chatrou plays the recorder and the flute but prefers whsitling, using nothing but his lips as his instrument. He can do it so well, that he is a triple world champion
It all started as a joke. His sister-in-law sent an application form in his name, to the world championships art wisthling after which he won. He defended his title the next year and again took part when the championships were hold in Japan for the first time ever. So now he is triple world champion.
The limited range of their instruments didn’t withhold guitarist Esther Steenbergen and art wisthlier Geert Chatrou to think big.
Although slightly embarrassed but with great enthusiasm they bring a concert program full of highlights of the orchestral and opera repertoire, pop songs and classical guitar repertoire.
Also Geert Chatrou explains how it all started, what it led to and what it’s like to out live ‘blowing in the wind’.
Esther Steenbergen and Geert Chatrou met during a festival of opera singer Tania Kross and continued performing ever since. Esther Steenbergen can be listened to on Geert Chatrou’s solo album Ornithology.
