Amsterdam guitarist Esther Steenbergen feels at home in the
classical, the contemporary and the Latin-American repertoire. As a soloist,
an accompanist and as a member of innumerable ensembles including the highly
praised Amsterdam Guitar Trio, she performed in North and South America,
Japan, Indonesia, South Africa and nearly entire Western Europe. Esther
Steenbergen studied classical guitar with Hubert
Käppel at the Musikhochschule
in Cologne (Germany), as well as Musicology
at the University of Utrecht (the Netherlands). During her studies she
took lessons with Pavel
Steidl and participated in master classes with Manuel
Barrueco and Leo
Brouwer. While still a student, she won first-prize in the internationally
renowned
Maria Canals competition in Barcelona (Spain).
Esther Steenbergen also has some organizing skills and is responsible for
the Meesters
op de Gitaar concertseries in the Concertgebouw
in Amsterdam.
